Justice is being denied to Roma with an almost deliberate delay in the bail
hearing proceedings. Out of the 3 new cases and 2 old cases slapped on
Roma after her incarceration on 30 June, she was given bail in one of the
old cases on 8 July and one new case on 13 July.
After that there has been a deliberate delay by the District Court
Robertsgunj , under pressure from Sonbhadra district administration. Her
bail hearing on 2 new cases scheduled for 28 July was postponed till 3
August and then again postponed on very flimsy grounds to 12 August – when
the hearing did take place but the judge has reserved his judgment for two
days, effectively stretching the decision to 17 August. One remaining old
case, for which hearing had happened on 5 August, judgment is expected on
In view of the deliberate delay and denial of justice to Roma, it has been
decided to wait till the 17 of August and then the NTUI will decide, in
consultation with the legal team, on future aggressive course of action to
ensure Roma’s earliest possible release.
Meanwhile teams have been visiting Roma (and other comrades in jail) on a
regular basis. Roma, despite faltering health, is in high spirits and
already planning to take the struggle forward even more strongly.
