The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday had termed his detention as illegal and ordered an immediate release.
Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez, lodged in Kotbalwal jail in Jammu, was released on Wednesday. Parvez was arrested from his home in Srinagar on September 16 and was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday had termed his detention illegal and ordered his immediate release. However, he was kept in jail for days after the ruling because of a ‘minor error’ in the issue date of PSA warrant on his name.
Parvez was arrested just a day after he was barred from boarding a flight and leaving for Geneva where he was scheduled to attend a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
